Confidence in God’s Marvelous Works
I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. [Psalm 139:14]
Confidence…hmmm…that is a loaded one for some of us! *grin*
Why though? Why is it so hard for us to be confident [sure, certain, positive, secure, self-assured, poised, assured, assertive]?
I think it is especially hard as ‘moms’, especially single moms, to be confident, self-assured women. We wear so many hats that we forget to be…well…us! We’re ‘Mom’, ‘Provider’, ‘Caretaker’, ‘Nurse’, ‘Chauffer’, ‘Coach’, ‘Referee’, ‘Homemaker’, ‘Daughter’, ‘Sister’, ‘Friend’, these are just a few of the roles we fill and most of them before we ever leave the house!
Beside the truckload of responsibility and pressure we put on ourselves, there is always someone out there willing to challenge your confidence! Whether it be a friend, parent, sibling, boss, spouse, in-law … eventually your children … there is always someone! Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there that are so insecure themselves, the only way they can get a ‘boost’ is to knock someone else down!
Most of us were ‘programmed’ to be modest and it can be hard to do or say anything that may imply arrogance or boasting! We don’t assert ourselves, because we don’t want to seem ‘cocky’ or ‘smug’!
As born-again believers, however, we most certainly DO have the luxury of self-confidence - through Jesus Christ! We were “fearfully” and “wonderfully” made! God does NOT make mistakes! He created you exactly the way He intended, the way you are supposed to be and with a divine purpose! Have confidence in yourself - in the Father’s marvelous works!
And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety. [Job 11:18]
35 Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. [Hebrews 10:35-36]
