Looking for Love…

…in all the wrong places!  *smile*

So, I’ve been working through a bunch of issues lately, trying to be more like God would have me to be.

I’ve gone on and on about fellowship and its importance.  And it is extremely important to our spiritual health – no doubt about that!

However, a new perspective came to light, actually, an old perspective but from a new source.  *smile*

I don’t know why we do it; after all, I only took Psych 101!  But many of us get off track when coping with our problems.  Instead of going to God first, we look for ‘someone to talk to’.  We rely on other people for consolation, confirmation and comfort!  (Believe me when I tell you – been there & done that!)

Whoopsie!

Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding.  [Proverbs 3:5]

Obviously, friends are vital in our emotional, mental and spiritual health.  I seriously believe that not only did God put us all here together for comfort, but He put certain people in our lives for a reason and maybe only for particular seasons.

I do however; think that sometimes we look to other people when we should be looking to God.  And let’s face it; there is NO ONE on this Earth that can fill His shoes!

“Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For the LORD GOD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation.”  [Isaiah 12:2]

As long as we are human, we will have that yearning for human contact.  But as believers we have a chance to satisfy that yearning almost completely.  Yes, it’s great to have friends to talk to and maybe even get a hug, but is that what we rely on?  Or do we rely on God and His Word for comfort?

You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.  [Psalm 115:11]

You know, I can honestly say that I have peace in my heart.  That’s not to say that some days aren’t a bit tricky, but ultimately, I know that God is in control of my life.  I know that He loves me, my kids. my mom, my family and friends more than I can possibly imagine.  I know that He is concerned with our safety, health and happiness!  I also know that if something   should happen to any of us we will be safe in His arms!

Those who trust in the LORD are as Mount Zion, which cannot be moved but abides forever.  [Psalm 125:1]

The key is, we have to sincerely trust Him with our lives.  A lot of people say they pray about their problems, but they remain so agitated!  I have to wonder how they pray!  Do they pray with sincerity?  Faith?  Trust?  I pray all day long.  I talk to Him about everything.  Then, at night, before bed I take the quiet time and pray about the day, the week, I lift prayer requests, etc.

Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.  [Psalm 62:8]

If you truly trust God then you know your prayers are being heard and that’s that.  Sometimes, we still need to follow up with some human interaction and discussion, but it’s usually just a confirmation of what we know God is telling us anyway.  He’s just using our friends, family, etc. to drive it home!

Don’t get caught up in relying on people for your sanity!  We’re all just people trying to get along the best we can!  People are always going to let you down!  Sooner or later – whether they mean to or not!  God however is greater than that.  He will NEVER let you down!

Trust in the LORD forever, for in GOD the LORD, we have an everlasting Rock.  [Isaiah 26:4]

And most certainly, don’t let anyone become dependant on you!  You are only human!  You can only take on so much!  Watch out for those that constantly withdrawal from the ‘friendship’ account and never deposit!  *wink*
